MONSTER HORDE?
Five games with something in common with Carnage Commander—and the differences that matter before you play.
RESEARCHED 7 OCTOBER 2026
Carnage Commander is a free, single-player browser horde shooter for desktop keyboard and mouse. It has three campaign arenas, ten-wave Hardcore variants and the larger Last Bastion endless arena. This guide compares gameplay features using the linked official descriptions; the matches and suggested starting points are our assessment.
For monster-crowd combat, start with the Serious Sam and Painkiller comparisons. For one-more-run survival, look at Devil Daggers, The Cyber Grind and Hordes of Evil. Carnage Commander is an independent project, with no affiliation to the games or studios listed here.

01 / Monster hordes and weapon switching
Serious Sam
Serious Sam is our clearest genre reference: keep moving, manage a crowd, and pick a weapon that suits the distance and target. Croteam describes circle-strafing, a varied arsenal and huge enemy numbers as central to Serious Sam 4.
What is different?
Carnage Commander offers compact single-player arenas, three weapons and shorter operations. It does not offer Serious Sam 4’s co-op campaign or its enormous battlefield scale.
Where to start in Carnage Commander
Start with Sunfall Courtyard. Switch to Hardcore when the three Standard waves feel comfortable.
02 / Monster crowds and boss battles
Painkiller: Black Edition
Painkiller pairs fast combat with swarms of hellish enemies and giant bosses. Its campaign and weapon combinations give players many ways to tackle those crowds. That crowd-clearing rhythm is the reason it belongs on this list.
What is different?
Our campaign is three compact arenas with defined waves and an extraction gate. Painkiller has a much larger campaign, a gothic horror setting and weapons with primary and secondary attacks.
Where to start in Carnage Commander
Try Iron Furnace for close routes around industrial cover, then tackle its boss.
03 / Survive longer and beat your last run
Devil Daggers
Devil Daggers puts you in an arena against endless demons, with magic daggers and a leaderboard measured in precious seconds. Its focused survival loop is the closest comparison here to the reason we built Last Bastion.
What is different?
Last Bastion uses distinct waves, three conventional weapons, pickups and breaks between waves. Its board ranks waves cleared first, then kills, then longer survival time. It is not a reproduction of Devil Daggers’ mechanics or scoring.
Where to start in Carnage Commander
Choose Endless Survival. Clear a wave to qualify, then submit after defeat or end the run from Pause.
04 / Push into increasingly difficult waves
ULTRAKILL — The Cyber Grind
The Cyber Grind is ULTRAKILL’s wave-based endless survival mode. The relevant connection is that repeated challenge: clear one wave and try to survive the next. This comparison concerns that mode specifically.
What is different?
Carnage Commander has a simpler three-weapon setup and a fixed Last Bastion layout. It does not reproduce ULTRAKILL’s advanced movement, weapon interactions or style systems.
Where to start in Carnage Commander
Play Last Bastion and learn routes between supplies before chasing a higher wave count.

05 / Retro monster combat and endless survival
AMID EVIL
AMID EVIL combines magical weapons, varied fantasy enemies and sprawling levels with its endless Hordes of Evil mode. It is a useful comparison for players who enjoy both authored FPS levels and repeatable survival challenges.
What is different?
Our game uses shotguns, automatic fire and rockets in smaller arenas. AMID EVIL has seven episodes, magical weaponry and much more exploration; our endless arena is one separate, fixed map.
Where to start in Carnage Commander
Explore Cistern of Echoes for a different arena atmosphere, or jump directly into Endless.
QUICK ANSWERS
Is Carnage Commander a Serious Sam browser game?
No. It is an independent browser FPS inspired by the broader horde-shooter genre. The connection is moving through monster crowds and switching weapons; it uses its own arenas and gameplay with credited, openly licensed assets.
Can I play Carnage Commander without downloading an installer?
Yes. Open Play on a desktop browser with WebGL 2, a keyboard and a mouse. Assets load in the browser, and no account is required.
Which mode has endless waves?
Last Bastion is the endless arena. Enemy strength increases across waves, a boss appears every fifth wave, and its leaderboard prioritizes waves cleared. Standard and Hardcore campaign arenas have a fixed ending.
